The centenary Trinquet de Pelayo was inaugurated on 20th August 1868. From its beginnings, this sporting venue became a reference point for the Valencian people’s sport: pilota. Years later it acquired the nickname of “La Catedral de l’escala i corda”. No pilotari is considered a leading figure without first having triumphed on its flagstones. Today it is the only place for the game of Valencian pilota in the city of Valencia and is considered to be the oldest indoor sporting venue in Europe that is still open. Finally, on 7 October it reopened its doors to the delight of all fans of this sport.
