The centenary Trinquet de Pelayo was inaugurated on August, 20th 1868. From its beginnings, this sporting venue became a reference point for the Valencian people’s sport: pilota. Years later it acquired the nickname of “La Catedral de l’escala i corda”. No pilotari is considered a leading figure without first having triumphed on its flagstones. Nowadays it is the only place for the game of Valencian pilota in the city of Valencia. Among the great figures who have triumphed in La Catedral are Nel de Murla, Alberto Arnal “Quart”, Juliet d’Alginet, Antoni Reig Ventura “Rovellet”, Paco Cabanes “Genov\u00e9s” and, more recently, Francesc Xavier Puchol i Catalunya “Puchol II”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 1976 a major refurbishment was carried out: it became a covered space, with artificial light, electronic scoreboards and more comfortable stands. In 2015, after a few months in which there were fears for the survival of the trinquet, it was acquired and restored again by a Valencian businessman. Finally, on 7 October, it reopened its doors to the delight of all fans of this sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On October, 9th 2017, the gastronomic space that is currently Pelayo Gastro Trinquet was inaugurated. The restaurant, located in the anteroom of the sports complex, is the pioneer of the Gastro Trinquet Group in the city of Valencia. Since its inauguration, it has aroused great interest among Val\u00e8ncia’s residents, visitors and tourists alike. The sculptural ensemble created in “vareta” wood by the Fallas artist Manolo Garc\u00eda presides over the room and creates the perfect setting to enjoy the cuisine of Pablo Marg\u00f3s and Chimo Faubell, executive chef and head chef, respectively.
